Bret "The Hitman" Hart is undeniably one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time. Bret's wrestling career was nothing short of extraordinary with many championship reigns to his name. Hart won 17 championships during his time in WWE and WCW, and he is in a small group of wrestlers who completed the Triple Crown in both promotions. Hart was a solid tag team competitor before he went on to become a successful wrestler in singles action.

Despite being one of the all-time greats, Hart isn't exempt from having poor championship reigns. Some title reigns were meaningful and abrupt. However, Hart has had some exceptional title reigns, where he was involved in some brilliant matches and storylines with several of his rivals.
10 Worst: WCW United States Championship - 1st Reign (1998)
Bret Hart clashed with Diamond Dallas Page on the July 20, 1998, edition of Nitro for the vacant WCW United States Championship. The Hitman defeated DDP for the United States Championship, and it was his first championship victory in WCW.
This wasn't a good championship reign for the Hitman as he held the title for just 21 days. He dropped the title to Lex Luger in his first title defense on the August 10, 1998 episode of Nitro.
9 Best: WWE World Tag Team Championship - 2nd Reign (1990-1991)
The Hart Foundation comprised Bret "The Hitman" Hart and his brother-in-law Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart became two-time WWE World Tag Team Champions at SummerSlam 1990. For the second time in three years, they were pitted with Demolition at SummerSlam, but the Hart Foundation managed to avenge their loss from 1988, by dethroning Demolition in a two-out-of-three falls match.
They could have dropped the titles to the Rockers in October 1990 but the decision was reversed as one of the ropes broke. Nevertheless, the Hart Foundation's steady 209-day reign as WWE World Tag Team Champions was ended by the Nasty Boys at WrestleMania 7.
8 Worst: WCW United States Championship - 4th Reign (1999)
Bret Hart challenged Goldberg for the WCW United States Championship on the October 25, 1999 edition of Nitro. The Hitman used his expertise, and he battled past Goldberg to become WCW United States Champion for the fourth time in his career.
Hart's time as WCW United States Champion wasn't the best as he was champion for two weeks, and he put his title on the line against Scott Hall, Goldberg, and Sid Vicious in a Texas Tornado Ladder match on the November 8, 1999, episode of Nitro. Hart's reign was ended by Hall, who managed to retrieve the championship.
7 Best: WWE Intercontinental Championship - 2nd Reign (1992)
The Mountie ended Bret Hart's maiden Intercontinental Championship reign but Mountie's Intercontinental Championship reign was a transitional one as he dropped the title to Roddy Piper at the 1992 Royal Rumble. The Hitman competed in his first singles match at WrestleMania, and he was looking to defeat Piper for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 8.

They had a solid Intercontinental Championship match and Hart defeated Piper to become a two-time Intercontinental Champion. Hart had a good run as Intercontinental Champion, and he was involved in a legendary Intercontinental Championship match with his brother-in-law The British Bulldog that headlined SummerSlam 1992 in London, England. Ultimately, Hart lost the Intercontinental Championship to Bulldog, but Hart made the title feel important.
6 Worst: WCW World Tag Team Championship - 1st Reign (1999)
Bret Hart was the reigning WCW World Heavyweight Champion but he was looking to become a double champion as he teamed up with Goldberg and they challenged Creative Control for the WCW World Tag Team Championship. Hart and Goldberg prevailed, and it was a significant title win for both men as they completed their set as WCW Triple Crown Winners.
Their WCW World Tag Team Championship reign was poor and they only held the championships for six days. They dropped the titles to the Outsiders' Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, who became six-time WCW World Tag Team Champions in the process.
5 Best: WWE Championship - 1st Reign (1992-1993)
Bret Hart dropping the WWE Championship to The British Bulldog at SummerSlam 1992 wasn't disastrous as the Hitman moved on to bigger and better things as he defeated Ric Flair for the WWE Championship in October 1992.
Bret's first run as WWE Champion was decent, and the highlight of his WWE Championship reign was his title match with Shawn Michaels at the 1992 Survivor Series. Hart's WWE Championship match with Razor Ramon at Royal Rumble 1993 was another fantastic match that Hart had during his maiden WWE Title reign. Ultimately, Yokozuna ended his six-month reign as WWE Champion in the main event of WrestleMania 9.
4 Worst: WWE Championship - 4th Reign (1997)
Shawn Michaels losing his smile threw the WWE Championship title picture heading into WrestleMania 13 up in the air. Bret Hart, Vader, The Undertaker, and Steve Austin clashed in a four corners elimination match for the vacant WWE Championship.

Hart clinched the WWE Championship for the fourth time but it was his worst run as WWE Champion. 24 hours later, Hart defended the WWE Championship against Sycho Sid on Raw. Sid ended Hart's WWE Championship reign, and his title reign lasted just one day but it was the first time that the WWE Championship changed hands on Raw.
3 Best: WWE World Tag Team Championship - 1st Reign (1987)
Bret Hart's first taste of silverware in WWE came in January 1987 when he teamed up with his brother-in-law Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart and they defeated the British Bulldogs for their first WWE World Tag Team Championship reign. The Hart Foundation was the reigning Tag Team Champions for a whopping 274 days.
Ironically, this is Hart's longest championship reign in WWE. The Hart Foundation and the British Bulldogs had a fascinating rivalry over the titles. On the November 7, 1987, edition of Superstars, Strike Force curtailed the Hart Foundation's Tag Team Championship reign.
2 Worst: WWE United States Championship - 5th Reign (2010)
Arguably, one of the worst championship reigns in the 2010s was Bret Hart's unexpected fifth United States Championship reign. The Hitman defeated The Miz for the United States Championship on the May 17, 2010, edition of Raw in a No Disqualification match.
This was an underwhelming United States Championship match, and Hart didn't even defend the championship once. The title was vacated a week later, and it was pointless for Hart to win the United States Championship since he was never going to have it for a long time.
1 Best: WWE Championship - 2nd Reign (1994)
Bret Hart had to wait 12 months to get his hands on the WWE Championship again but it was worth the wait. The Excellence of Execution was the co-winner of the 1994 Royal Rumble match, and he defeated Yokozuna in the main event of WrestleMania 10 to become a two-time WWE Champion.
Hart's second WWE Championship reign was outstanding as he was involved in some high-profile matches. He clashed with the Intercontinental Champion Diesel at King of the Ring 1994, and he saw off the 1-2-3 Kid on an episode of Raw to retain the WWE Championship. Hart and his younger brother Owen stole the show in a five-star steel cage match at SummerSlam with Hart retaining the gold. However, his 248-day WWE Championship reign was shockingly ended by Bob Backlund at Survivor Series 1994.
