Gunther's run as Intercontinental Champion has been very impressive, with the Imperium leader helping to establish himself as a top name on WWE's main roster to showcase what he is capable of. He has made history by becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion, breaking Honky Tonk Man's record.

However, now that he has managed to achieve that goal the focus instantly switches to who will be the person to dethrone him. WWE has a loaded roster right now which opens up plenty of possibilities, but while many wrestlers would be great options to take the title from him, some have no chance at all.

10 Could Beat Gunther: Jey Uso

Jey Uso Cropped (1)

Jey Uso is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE right now and the company has decided to focus on him as a singles wrestler. He's moved to Monday Night Raw and this could open up the opportunity for him to kick on as a singles act to achieve big things.

Winning the Intercontinental Championship would be a big deal for him and would certainly be a method of tapping into his recent success. Fans want to see him in big storylines, and a feud against Gunther would certainly achieve that goal.

9 Have No Chance: Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler walking to the ring.

Dolph Ziggler is almost a forgotten man in WWE at times, mainly because he isn't booked consistently, tending to just be brought into the fold at random times for quick storylines. That isn't the type of character that WWE would be looking to give this big moment to, despite Ziggler's ability.

Ziggler is also someone that doesn't need this moment. He's a proven star who has achieved plenty and is now focusing more on non-wrestling roles than anything else, which is why he doesn't stand a chance of winning the title.

8 Could Beat Gunther: Bron Breakker

It has been a long waiting game for Bron Breakker' expected arrival on the main roster as most fans anticipated it would've happened by now. That isn't the case, but it is clear that WWE has big plans for him moving forward and to ensure that works out he will need a big push on arrival of the main roster.

Having him defeat Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship would be a great way of achieving that goal. Whoever takes the title from him will get a huge rub, and Breakker is someone who would benefit from that massively.

7 Have No Chance: Cody Rhodes

Considering the fact Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest names in WWE, putting him against Gunther would be a huge storyline for WWE. Rhodes would continue to elevate the title if he held it, but he is ultimately someone who has no chance of being that man.

While fans would certainly buy into Rhodes doing it, that wouldn't fit his storyline. Rhodes has been looking to 'finish the story' throughout his time with the company. To do that he needs to win a World title, which is why it's unlikely he will deviate to the Intercontinental Championship.

6 Could Beat Gunther: Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens is a major star who wouldn't feel out of place winning the Intercontinental Championship and would ensure that the title continues to be seen as a big deal. While he is working with Sami Zayn right now, his partner is likely going to have some storyline work with Jey Uso moving forward.

That is why it would be a good time to give KO a big opportunity as a singles wrestler. It has been a long time since Owens held a singles title, therefore it would feel fresh to have him do it and he would benefit massively from it.

5 Have No Chance: Tommaso Ciampa

Tommaso Ciampa returns to WWE Raw

Tommaso Ciampa is a brilliant wrestler who has had some great moments throughout his WWE career, particularly during his time in NXT. However, his main roster run hasn't led to him being a featured part of the show. While he's been involved in some good matches, Ciampa hasn't really had a big storyline.

It seems he is more likely to team with Johnny Gargano again than begin challenging for singles gold. He hasn't been positioned as a threat on the main roster, which is why it's unlikely people will see him in that spot.

4 Could Beat Gunther: JD McDonagh

JD McDonagh has recently teased being involved with The Judgment Day, and anybody who gets put in that group tends to receive a major push. Right now all the members hold gold, therefore if the Irish Ace was to join the faction it wouldn't be hard to imagine a title could be in his future.

He's a gifted performer who is capable of putting great matches together, and having him get a title would only help enhance the faction and allow McDonagh to get a good push.

3 Have No Chance: Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle has had a lot of opportunities on the main roster, but he is someone who doesn't have a chance of dethroning Gunther. The main reason for that is he is currently focused on tag team wrestling due to his partnership with Drew McIntyre, which is proving to be popular.

On top of that, Riddle already had a detailed storyline for the Intercontinental Championship against Gunther where he came up short. Because of that, it is unlikely WWE will go back to that situation as the timing just isn't right for Riddle at the moment.

2 Could Beat Gunther: Chad Gable

Chad Gable Ankle Lock

Chad Gable might have tried and failed to capture the Intercontinental Championship recently, but that doesn't mean he should be written off as an option. Gable has got the fans behind him right now and tapping into that would be wise on WWE's behalf as people want to see him used more.

His recent title defeat led to his daughter crying at ringside, and that is something that could be used as a storyline to get even more emotional investment into their rivalry. Gable is more than capable of breaking out as a singles star and putting on great matches to keep enhancing the title.

1 Have No Chance: The Miz

The Miz in the ring

The Miz is one of the biggest stars in WWE, a veteran who has achieved it all, and someone that the company always looks to push into big opportunities. However, that doesn't mean that he needs to become the Intercontinental Champion at this stage in his career, especially when it would create a heel vs. heel dynamic with Gunther.

Miz is busy with other things, and he is talented enough to be a big star without a title around his waist. While there's no doubt he will be a champion again at some stage in his career, he won't be the man who defeats Gunther.
