While ratings aren't as important as remembering a person who deserves to be remembered fondly, the numbers for Wednesday's AEW Dynamite tribute to Brodie Lee are in, and they're extremely strong.
This past Wednesday night, AEW dedicated their weekly program Dynamite to John Huber, aka Brodie Lee. There were tribute videos, every match featured a member of the Dark Order faction he led, and his son and wife were prominently featured on the show. On Thursday, the ratings for that show are starting to come in and the numbers are demonstrating that doing the right thing pays off in more ways than one.
While that show was the right thing do for a member of the AEW family that left this world too soon, the promotions ratings didn't take a hit as a result of essentially putting their current storylines on hold. In fact, the ratings are up from the previous two weeks.
PW Torch reports that AEW Dynamite drew 977,000 viewers for their Celebration of Life for Brodie Lee. They also earned a .40 rating in the 18-49 demographic. NXT drew 586,000 viewers with a .12 rating in the coveted demographic. This is an improvement over last week's Dynamite which drew 775,000 viewers and the week before which drew 806,000 viewers and scored a .35 in the 18-49 demographic.
It has been extremely rare for AEW to pull anywhere near 1 million viewers, so this 977K number is extremely positive.
It Was An Incredible Show
AEW did a commendable job putting a touching show together. Even in a relatively short time, Lee was important to that roster and there were some big things in store for him. AEW talent respected him and truly loved he and his family. It was clear watching Wednesday's segments that he will be missed.
Again, while the ratings of a show like this are secondary to what the purpose of that program was, it's nice to see that putting a program like that together did more than pay tribute to someone who deserved it.
