AEW has decided, that in admonishing Jon Moxley for his attack on an official to close Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, they are not actually going to do anything.
In a promotion that brands itself as close to a "real sport" as a professional wrestling product can get, Moxley has attacked an official and he's getting only a warning. And, this is after the company has acknowledged this is now the second time Moxley has been physical with an official.
The main event for AEW Dynamite on Wednesday saw Jon Moxley and PAC go head-to-head in a great match that went to a television time limit draw. Moxley was upset, drove referee Paul Turner's face into the mat with a double arm DDT and yelled "time limit, my a--," into the camera as the show went off the air. Thursday, AEW announced that if Moxley attacks a referee again, he could face a fine and/ or suspension.
I'm Sorry... "Could?"
This is a decision that makes no sense on many levels. AEW released an official statement on social media regarding the incident but in any other sport, even in WWE where fans claim the storylines make little sense, attacking a referee results in an immediate fine or suspension. Yet, Moxley can do so twice and only get a warning, the company suggesting the third time, they might consider a fine or suspension.
Unfortunately, while this conveniently allows Moxley to stay in his scheduled match against Kenny Omega at Full Gear on November 9th, this is a bad look for AEW. Former WWE official Jimmy Korderas recently slammed AEW for having an "at the ref's discretion policy." Clearly, they have an "at the company's discretion policy" as well.
Typically, while reporting the news in AEW and WWE, the aim is to focus on just reporting the story. This one was far too strange a decision to ignore forming an opinion.
