In what has been one of the wildest weeks in WWE history, there was somehow another twist in the tale that has been Vince McMahon's return and the build to the potential sale of the company. Reports that alongside the usual suspects - such as the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, Disney, and Fox - of people who might be interested in buying WWE is the Khan family.
An AEW/WWE Merger
Yes, the very same Khan family that owns AEW, as well as NFL franchise the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Premier League football club Fulham. The reports that AEW's owners might be interested in buying WWE and merging it with their own wrestling promotion started to circulate on Thursday night. They appear to be a lot more reliable than the reports claiming WWE had been sold to Saudi Arabia which were debunked earlier this week.

According to CNBC, the Khan family is in a pool of potential buyers for the company. A buyer that wasn't included in the corporations that might be interested and can actually afford to buy from McMahon. Despite their wealth, the Khans might not actually have the cash to outbid others for WWE. In CNBC's report, it states the Khans “could partner with a strategic media company to share the intellectual property.”
How It Might Work
As for who that media company might be, AEW already has a very strong relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery. One of the companies previously listed as a potential buyer for WWE, but a rank outsider just a few days ago due to its ongoing deal with AEW. Together the two would have the funds and while it's unlikely McMahon would want to sell to a rival, apparently, the Khans are very much in the running.
Speaking of McMahon, the report also claims the Khans would be willing to negotiate a deal in which the returning chairman retains a role with the company. What that role would be, and whether McMahon would want it, remains unclear. While Eric Bischoff enjoyed being an on-screen talent in WWE a few years after the WCW buyout, it seems unlikely McMahon would be willing to be subjected to the same stuff he was unless in full control.
