Current All Elite Wrestling play-by-play commentator Excalibur has been in the wrestling business for nearly 20 years, and has filled a wide variety of roles. Although he became most widely known as a commentator after joining AEW in 2019, Excalibur was also one of the founders of Pro Wrestling Guerilla, which not too long ago was widely regarded as one of the hottest independent wrestling promotions in America. In addition to being a founder, Excalibur wrestled for PWG for five years, and was a tag team champion alongside co-founder Super Dragon.Excalibur retired from in-ring competition in 2007, citing multiple concussions and fear of long term head injuries. Kudos to him for that, but the decision was likely a little easier because he also excelled as a commentator. Following his in-ring retirement, Excalibur became PWG's lead play-by-play announcer, and its Commissioner of Food and Beverage, which was later renamed to Liaison to the Board of Directors. However, he did have another "match" after his retirement, and it's probably one that he would like to have back.

Excalibur Called Kevin Owens' Six-Month-Old Son Ugly
Excalibur and Kevin Steen (Owens) had a lot of history together, both in PWG and across other indie wrestling promotions. They had been enemies in CZW in 2004, although Steen was the catalyst for Excalibur turning heel in May 2015 at the Jason Takes PWG show. At a previous show, Super Dragon -- who was another PWG co-founder -- was attacked by someone dressed as Super Dragon. It was ultimately revealed that the attacker was Steen, and then the duo became a heel tag team. Excalibur and Steen also did commentary together quite a bit, as it was commonplace for active PWG wrestlers to take turns in the commentary booth.

Fast-forward to May 2008, at PWG's DDT4 Night One event where Steen and El Generico (Sami Zayn) had just defeated Davey Richards and Super Dragon in the first round of the DDT4 tag team tournament. Excalibur was in the ring with Steen and ElGenerico after the match, and Steen had said, "and that's why nobody deserves to be PWG Tag Team Champions more than us," before bumping Excalibur, who took the mic from Steen. Excalibur then proceeded to call Steen's six-month-old son Owen ugly, not once but twice, causing Steen to make a beeline toward Excalibur.
After Three Package Piledrivers From Kevin Owens, His Son Pinned Excalibur
After the second "ugly," Steen immediately charged at Excalibur and kicked him in the groin. Steen then hit Excalibur with three consecutive package piledrivers while El Generico was still in the ring encouraging him. Steen walked to the back of the building where his wife and infant son were sitting, then picked up his son and walked toward the ring, as a "BABY! BABY! BABY!" chant emanated from the crowd. Steen slid into the ring and held his son in the air to a large applause, then laid him on top of Excalibur, while El Generico counted the 1-2-3, causing the fans to erupt.

Steen kissed Owen on the cheek, as the ring announcer announced him as the winner, and El Generico raised his hand. Steen got out of the ring, and handed Owen to El Generico, telling him to hand him over "gently." Steen said to the camera, "First PWG match and many more coming." Although Owen has yet to have another match, Excalibur referenced the situation in response to one of Kevin Owens' tweets in March 2021.
Owens posted a picture with his family. His son was 13 at the time and quite tall, and Excalibur responded, "If I'm ever going to get my win back, would you consider being my partner in a handicap match? Still may not be fair, but at least evens the odds somewhat..." Clearly, Excalibur still wants his revenge over Owen. Perhaps one day he might get it.
