Bloodsport, a professional wrestling event reminiscent of the early days of MMA and catch wrestling, is hosted by the American promotion Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). The event has a unique ruleset compared to traditional pro wrestling events, with each match ending in either a knockout or submission.
In 2019, Barnett hosted Bloodsport 1, fighting Minoru Suzuki in the main event. On June 22, 2019, it was announced that Bloodsport 2 would take place on September 14, 2019, in Atlantic City. Although Moxley was announced as Barnett’s opponent, he had to bow out due to injury and was replaced by Chris Dickinson, who was defeated by Barnett in the main event.
On April 2, 2020, at Bloodsport 3, Barnett was again scheduled to face off against Moxley, however the event was postponed until October 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, in the main event, Moxley defeated Dickinson by submission. Bloodsport 6, which is scheduled to take place on April 8 at The Cuban Club in Tampa, Florida, currently only features Moxley and Barnett on the card.
Moxley recently told Metro.co. that he wants to eventually return to tag wrestling in AEW. “I like tag team wrestling, you know? And there’s so many great tag teams here that I wanna get to work with. But it’s like, okay, I’m gonna need a suitable partner, not just any random guy. I want a full, actual good tag team run with a good partner, make a real run at having a run in this tag division.”
“The guy I was thinking about doing it with was Brodie Lee. He was a good friend, and I wrestled him so many millions of times, our styles would have complemented each other very well. You want somebody who compliments you. Maybe they do things you don’t do, and vice versa,” Moxley added.
