In televised pro wrestling, it’s not uncommon for audio production to pick up the things wrestlers say during matches, but in the quieter, largely audience-free pro wrestling of 2020 and 2021 performers are even more audible than ever. On the 2/8/2021 edition of WWE’s flagship show Raw, Nia Jax was caught shouting “My hole!” in response to taking a move and ended up going viral for it.

As hilarious as it was, it wasn’t the first time a wrestler said something funny in the ring, so let’s check out some more examples of wrestlers saying something funny during in-ring action.
10 Nia Jax’s Hole
Since it’s the hot topic that inspired this list, let’s start out by talking about Nia Jax going viral. On the aforementioned episode of Raw, Jax was wrestling Lana in a tables match and attempted to perform a leg drop on the apron.
Lana rolled out of harm’s way, and Jax’s rear end made contact with what any commentator will tell you is “the hardest part of the ring.” To sell the move, Jax started shouting “My butt!” which was funny enough, but truly struck gold when she switched it up to “My hole.”
9 Baron Corbin Hates Indie Wrestling
Before he was the bane of every WWE fan’s existence, Baron Corbin was a monster heel on NXT, and one who had an intense dislike of the brand’s overwhelming number of former indie wrestlers. This manifested in matches with Austin Aries, Johnny Gargano, and Rich Swannamong others, but the relevant match here happened at NXT TakeOver: London against Apollo Crews, who used to wrestle on the indies as Uhaa Nation.
Upon dumping Crews out of the ring, Corbin shouted “You should have stayed in Ring of Honor!” It was a great heel move that was also really funny because Uhaa Nation never actually wrestled for ROH.
8 Toru Yano Translates Himself
New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s annual G1 Climax is often the best time to be a Toru Yano fan. The Sublime Master Thief has never won the G1 usually takes part in the tournament, meaning several weeks’ worth of Yano singles matches. It also means weeks of shenanigans, shameless cheating, and hollering.

In a tournament match with Zack Sabre Jr., Yano nearly scored a countout victory by using wrist tape to tie his opponent to a chair on the other side of a guard rail. Sabre was understandably irritated about this, which caused Yano to beg forgiveness by hollering “Gomen nasai,” which he quickly clarified by then hollering “It’s Japanese sorry!’”
7 Kevin Owens Is The Mayor
Despite their time in NXT overlapping, Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe only had one singles match together on the black and yellow brand. On the 6/17/2015 their one-on-one main event ended in a No Contest, but it was still a memorable match.
In particular, while spamming chinlocks on his opponent -- which is an extremely heelish thing to do in Full Sail University -- Kevin Owens bellowed “CHINLOCK CITY,” a play on “Suplex City,” as made famous by Brock Lesnar.
6 Brock Lesnar Reacts To Keith Lee
Speaking of Brock Lesnar, the former WWE had a notable Royal Rumble in 2020, entering at eliminating 13 men one after the other before finally getting thrown out of the ring himself by eventual Rumble winner Drew McIntyre.
But before that, Brock had a pretty funny interaction with Keith Lee, looking legitimately impressed with Lee and exclaiming “Big Boy!” and “Who’s this [expletive]?” That didn’t stop him from eliminating Keith Lee like the rest, but his reaction was still hilarious.
5 Pentagon Jr. Insults Fenix’s Mother, And Also His Own
Many English-speaking wrestling fans got their first taste of Pentagon Jr. on Lucha Underground, as it was incredibly easy to fall in love with a disgruntled ninja skeleton who lived to break the arms of others.
He also had a tendency to loudly hurl crude insults to his opponents in Spanish, including when he and Fenix were the final two in a six-way elimination match near the end of Season 2. The bout got incredibly intense when Penta hurled an insult about Fenix’s mother, which was especially funny because Pentagon and Fenix are brothers in real life.
4 Jake’s Snake
In 2014, legendary heel Jake “The Snake” Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, but a few months before that he made his first appearance for WWE in nearly a decade when he showed up during the main event of the “Old School” episode of Raw, helping CM Punk and other babyfaces in a fight against The Shield.

Roberts, wielding his trademark snake, would dangle the reptile over a downed Dean Ambrose in a manner that was a little too sexually suggestive. As he did it, fans watching at home could hear CM Punk off-screen say “Keep it PG, Jake.”
3 Nobody Kicks Out of the Falcon Arrow
Los Angeles’ Pro Wrestling Guerrilla spawned a number of pro wrestling inside jokes, some of which have diffused to All Elite Wrestling thanks to the number of PWG alumni that moved on to AEW. One such bit involves Chuck Taylor reacting poorly any time he executes a Falcon Arrow only for his opponent to kick out, often shouting “Nobody kicks out of the Falcon Arrow!”
In one AEW match, Best Friends were taking on The Young Bucks, and Taylor did the deal only for the one of the Bucks to kick out. Just as Excalibur shouted “Nobody kicks out of the Falcon Arrow!” on commentary, Chuckie T did the same in the ring.
2 Dolph Ziggler Iron Man Match
In 2018, Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins clashed in a perfectly fine 30-minute Iron Man match in the main event of Extreme Rules that failed to get the crowd excited. Instead of getting into the match, for some reason a large number of fans in the arena got obsessed with counting down with the clock every minute.
To curb this behavior, WWE decided to stop showing the numbers on their jumbotron, but that didn’t stop the crowd from counting down. At one point, cameras picked up Ziggler remarking that the crowd got even worse after they took the clock off the screen.
1 Chris Jericho Is Not From Toronto
At Survivor Series 2009, The Undertaker was defending his World Heavyweight Title in a triple threat against The Big Show and Chris Jericho. Of course, the action spilled outside the ring, as it often does in triple threats, during which a fan at ringside shouted at Jericho, “Go back to Toronto!”
As Jericho led a dazed Undertaker back to the ring, he decided to turn to the fan and shout back “I’m from Winnipeg, you idiot!” The moment was very clearly captured by the camera and went down as one of Jericho’s best quotes ever.
