WWE CEO Nick Khan and AEW President Tony Khan have been connected for the last several years for being the heads of professional wrestling's two biggest promotions while coincidentally having the same last name. Despite those two similarities, they have never met.
Nick Khan was asked about this during the Bill Simmons podcast, saying of Tony Khan, "I've never met the kid Tony Khan, seems like a nice kid to me. I don't know him. I have met his dad who randomly I sat next to at some sports business luncheon that Stephanie and I went to a year and a half or so." He continued on about Tony's father, Shad Khan. "I could not be more impressed with the dad. He made his money in the auto parts business, I believe. So he knows that inside out. I don't believe he's involved on the wrestling side of the business, outside of financing it. He has the pockets and that's awesome and I'm sure his kid appreciates it. I was never threatened by that. I tend not to be threatened. I don't feel threatened by anyone on anything..." (h/t wrestlingnews.co)
Was Nick Khan Taking A Jab At Tony Khan?
Nick Khan and Tony Khan may have never met in person, but they're familiar with each other. For Nick to call Tony a kid several times and make comments about him appreciating his dad's money might seem like thinly veiled insults to many, especially when the kid Tony Khan is 40 years old, and Nick Khan is only a few years older at 46. It's not surprising that Nick Khan would take a jab at the AEW President, however. Tony Khan has taken his own at Nick Khan in the past, such as in a pre-Dynamite interview with Tony Schiavone, when he said of rumors that WWE was in talks with New Japan, "I think there's only room for one Khan in the wrestling business, Nick, and it's me, it's Tony Khan. It's not some con man from Connecticut."
With harsh words like that, it's no wonder that Nick Khan would take his own small jabs. It probably won't be the last time these two speak negatively about each other either.
