The Nashville Predators saw the most successful regular season in franchise history end in a heartbreaking 5-1 Game 7 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, but the Presidents' Trophy winners kept a positive vibe after the contest.
After the game, Bobby Roode's "Glorious," WWE theme could be heard in the arena. Many Predators fans stayed to cheer and salute their team, despite a blowout loss on home ice that abruptly ends their incredible season.
These are the lyrics in Roode's theme:
"Glorious No,
I won't give in
I won't give in 'till i'm victorious
And I will defend
I will defend"
Certainly strong and fitting words for a Nashville team that played their hearts out during the regular season, topping the league with 117 points. Indeed, staying glorious and refusing to give in until they're victorious is an excellent mindset.
Nashville fans deserve credit for handling the loss with class. It would have been understandable for a large portion of them to go home or watch in silence and despair about the Jets advancing. But the Music City has some of the greatest NHL fans, and the glorious showing was there on Thursday.
The Predators reached the Stanley Cup Final as the eighth seed last season, but they fell to the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins in six games. They were pegged as a favorite to win it all in 2018, but the Jets - who finished second in regular season points - showed up when it mattered most.
But Nashville has a terrific core that centers around star goalie Pekka Rinne (a shoe-in to win the Vezina Trophy), world class blueliners Roman Josi and P.K. Subban, plus star forwards Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen.
It was a tough loss for the Predators, but they simply just have to listen closely to the lyrics in Roode's theme song. They're a glorious team and need to avoid giving in until they're victorious.
