Few AEW stars have taken off in the past year like Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti. Guevara, as a two-time TNT Champion, was just named AEW’s Breakout Star of 2021. Conti has risen in the women’s division, facing off against champion Britt Baker, and winning an AEW award as well for Biggest WTF Moment, due to her inclusion in the brutal New Year’s Eve Street Fight. As they rise, however, their new romantic relationship has been plastered all over social media and has now leaked onto TV in a recent very cringeworthy moment. Their nonstop lovefest risks turning fans against them.

Sammy Guevara Proposed To His Girlfriend On Live Television
On August 18th of last year, during an episode of Dynamite in his hometown of Houston, Guevara proposed to his girlfriend of eight years, Pam Nizio, during a commercial break. It was later highlighted on the show, with praise coming in across social media for the happy couple. Just two months later Guevara took to Instagram to announce that he and his fiancé had split.
Fans may have thought it odd, but with their young age and Guevara’s career choice, it wasn’t a total surprise. More importantly, it wasn’t anyone’s business. Not long after, though, rumors heated up that Guevara and Conti were now dating. The speculation was fueled by Conti’s recent announcement that she had split with her husband, along with her increasing presence with Guevara in his vlogs. This led to Conti being the target of internet trolls, and her temporarily deleting her Twitter account.

Sammy Guevara And Tay Conti Have Gone Public With Their Relationship
On New Year’s Day, Guevara and Conti confirmed their relationship in a social media post that showed the couple kissing on New Year’s Eve. Many fans were not happy for them and tended to sympathize with Guevara’s ex-fiancé. While it was still not anyone’s business, for wrestling fans, the lines between public life and privacy can be easily blurred. We can get so invested in our favorite stars that their lives become our lives. When Guevara proposed on TV, he did that in front of us. It, therefore, meant something to a lot of people, and to see that taken away, made many uncomfortable and personally offended.
It didn’t help that Guevara and Conti then began flaunting their new relationship all over the internet. There were the vlogs, the tweets, the incessant photos of the scantily clad couple on vacation, in each other’s arms. To show off their new love so often, to take pride in trolling fans by displaying mutual fake tattoos they had gotten of each other’s names, struck many as being insensitive and excessive. While most fans know their relationship is none of our business, to have it constantly thrown in our faces and made our business is a bit much.

Guevara And Conti Take Their Relationship To The TV Screen
Guevara and Conti are now a couple on TV too, with Conti coming out to protect Guevara when he was attacked by American Top Team during his title loss to Scorpio Sky. After the match, Conti was assaulted by Paige VanZant, who proceeded to sign her AEW contract on an unconscious Conti’s butt.
This interaction led to one of the most awkward moments in AEW’s young history in a promo so awful that one has to wonder if it’s on purpose to turn the couple heel. If not, they’re destined to get the Cody Rhodes treatment from fans. As the equally annoying Dan Lambert yelled from the stage while showing off and kissing one of the TNT Championship belts during a recent episode of Dynamite, Guevara and Conti stood in the ring with big, dumb grins on their faces.
Guevara took the mic and said, “I know we’ve been living rent-free in your head since you got here, but If you only knew what Tay and I did while wearing that belt, then you’d know we now live in your mouth too.” Later Conti tweeted out a photo of her and Guevara lying naked in bed, the TNT Championship posed in front of them.
If there’s anything more annoying than Corey Graves and Carmella in WWE, if there’s anyone you want to hear from less than AEW’s Dan Lambert, it’s Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti’s relationship. Their insufferable in-your-face dating life threatens to derail the massive amount of talent and potential each has. Even if the whole point is to troll fans and get them to boo, it won’t result in fans booing them for fun. It’ll be fans booing for them to just go away.
