Back in January, several female wrestlers accused Tessa Blanchard of being a bully and a racist. She was also alleged to have spit in a Black woman's face and called her a racial slur. It was later revealed that the woman in question was Shine wrestler Black Rose, who confirmed that the incident had happened. At the time, Blanchard denied the allegations in a tweet.

Now, Blanchard, whose contract was terminated by Impact in June, has decided to address the claims in an Instagram post. The former Impact World Champion, who was stripped of her title when she was fired, was on hiatus for six months until she defended the Warrior Wrestling Women’s Title against Kylie Rae at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL, on September 12, where she was defeated.

Although some claim she’s been contacted by WWE, Blanchard remains a free agent. She says she’s taken time off from wrestling to plan her wedding and honeymoon as well as to focus on friends and family. In her post, Blanchard denies being a racist, writing, “That’s not me, that’s never been me, I don’t have a history of being that way, I don’t have a history of using that language & that’s the end of it, it’s just not who I am. & I’m tired of being called & my family seeing me be called something so hateful.”

The 25-year-old, daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard, was the first woman to win the first intergender match to ever headline a professional wrestling pay-per-view event at Slammiversary XVI when she defeated Sami Callahan. Her last match in Impact was taped on March 7, when she lost, along with Eddie Edwards, the Impact World Tag Team Championship against champions The North.

Despite Blanchard’s assertion that she never engaged in bullying or racist behavior, WWE NXT Superstar Chelsea Green, NWA world women’s champion Allysin Kay, Priscilla Kelly, Mae Young Classic competitor Renee Michelle, AEW’s Shanna and former Impact Wrestling star Tanea Brooks have all backed the allegations. Kay was the first one to accuse Blanchard of having “spit in a Black woman’s face in Japan and called her the N-word,” while Shanna stated that Blanchard “did more nasty stuff in Japan.”

It remains to be seen if her alleged behavior has long-term consequences, though it seems unlikely that a simple Instagram post will be enough to put the past behind her.
