If there is one thing that NXT has proven over time, it is that the brand's matches almost always put the main WWE roster to shame. That is especially true with the tag team division, where NXT takes the idea of tag teams seriously when compared to the main roster that usually brings in mismatched teams to always go over established tag teams.

While main roster fans might be surprised, many of the teams that arrived on the main roster from NXT and flopped were putting on some of the best matches in the WWE tag team scene while in NXT. Here is a look at the 10 best NXT tag team title matches in TakeOver history.

10 AMERICAN ALPHA VS. REVIVAL (DALLAS)

The Revival and American Alpha opened NXT TakeOver: Dallas, and that left the rest of the show a lot to live up to.  There was nothing to worry about as the rest of the card was just as great, but this tag team match was pure old-school tag team wrestling.

In NXT, American Alpha was the second coming of tag teams like the Rock N Roll Express, while The Revival was a modern-day Brainbusters. They were perfect foils and proved it in Dallas. The match was a 15-minute masterclass, and American Alpha beat The Revival to win the tag titles in front of a hot crowd.

9 AUTHORS OF PAIN VS. DIY (CHICAGO 2017)

AOP v DIY

The Authors of Pain have struggled on the main roster due to injuries. They also struggled early in NXT. They ended up getting over thanks to manager Paul Ellering, who at one time managed the Road Warriors as well. However, one team that had no problem getting over was DIY.

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano had more five-star tag team matches than anyone in NXT. This match was the main event of TakeOver Chicago in 2017, and it deserved it. The two teams fought in a ladder match, and AOP deservedly beat DIY in a 20-minute match. AOP came out of it as bigger stars than ever before.

8 REVIVAL VS. DIY (BROOKLYN II)

While American Alpha seemed the perfect nemesis for The Revival in NXT, there was one team that one-upped them. DIY vs. The Revival fought in three title matches on this list, and that is because they were the best-matched tag team foes in NXT history.

This title match was right in the middle of the show and was the best match on the entire card. The Revival came in as champions and were putting on better tag matches than anyone in the world. They beat DIY by making Ciampa tap out in 19 minutes, but it was only the beginning.

7 REVIVAL VS. DIY (TORONTO)

WWE named The Revival vs. DIY from NXT TakeOver: Toronto as the Match of the Year in 2016 for the entire company. This included the main roster matches, so that should tell you everything you need to know about this fantastic match.

This was the match that finally allowed Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano to overcome the best tag team in professional wrestling and finally win the tag team titles. The match went 22 minutes, and both members of DIY made both members of The Revival tap out to the thrill of the crowd.

6 REVIVAL VS. DIY VS. AUTHORS OF PAIN (ORLANDO)

The last match on this list featuring The Revival vs. DIY also included the Authors of Pain. Not only that but in this match, it was the Authors of Pain who came in as champions. The Revival was the best team in the world. DIY was two experienced veterans who worked well together.

However, this was a chance for AOP — who at the time were both barely over 20-years-old — to prove that they belonged and they did, winning the match in what was one of the best matches of the young team's career.

5 DANNY BURCH AND ONEY LORCAN VS. UNDISPUTED ERA (CHICAGO 2018)

Roderick Strong knees Oney Lorcan in the head

While The Revival was the best tag team for years in wrestling, that title is now owned by The Undisputed Era — at least as far as WWE is concerned. The Undisputed Era took part in four of the top five best tag team title matches in TakeOver history. This one came in 2018 from Chicago.

This is also one of the matches that did not include Bobby Fish, who was injured at the time. Instead, it was Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly defending their titles against the surprise competitors Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. No one could have expected it, but this criminally underrated tag team put on one of the best matches of the night.

4 MOUSTACHE MOUNTAIN VS. UNDISPUTED ERA (BROOKLYN 2018)

The Undisputed Era kick at Trent Seven

Anyone who follows NXT wrestling in the U.K. already knows how great Tyler Bate and Trent Seven is. Once again, this was Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly for The Undisputed Era, as Bobby Fish was still recovering from his injuries.

These two teams had some great matches in 2018, with Moustache Mountain winning the titles at one point. In this match, The Undisputed Era came in as champions and retained in a great 18-minute match.

3 UNDISPUTED ERA VS. WAR RAIDERS (PHOENIX)

Undisputed Era vs War Raiders

Before they were the Erik and Ivar in the Viking Raiders, Hanson and Rowe were known as the War Raiders in NXT, and they were undefeated. The team held the NXT tag team titles until they left for the main roster and then gave them up without taking a loss.

NXT TakeOver: Phoenix is where the War Raiders won the titles from The Undisputed Era (once again Strong and O'Reilly). The match opened the show and lasted 16 minutes before they hit Fallout on O'Reilly to stand on top of NXT.

2 WAR RAIDERS VS. RICOCHET AND ALEISTER BLACK (NEW YORK)

All four of these men are now on Monday Night Raw. The War Raiders became the Viking Raiders and held the Raw tag team titles. Aleister Black is expected to be one of the top stars on Raw and Ricochet is still trying to find his spot, despite his overwhelming talent.

They all proved themselves in NXT TakeOver: New York's opening match. The War Raiders were the champions, and Black and Ricochet were the challengers. This match might be why WWE decided to pair up Ricochet and Black when they first arrived on Raw, although that didn't last. The Raiders won in 18 minutes to retain their titles.

1 BROSERWEIGHTS VS. UNDISPUTED ERA (PORTLAND)

The best NXT tag team title match in TakeOver history is also one of the most recent events for the brand. The match had a mismatched tag team put together for the Dusty Rhodes Classic, but the team turned into one of the most entertaining in WWE history. Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne earned this tag team title shot by winning that tournament.

Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly had beaten almost every contender than came their way and then met up with Riddle and Dunne. The opposite personalities of Riddle and Dunne make them entertaining, but they are two of the best in the ring and won the tag titles in Portland.
