The WWE United States Championship has a strong lineage that has been around for almost five decades. Some of the all-time greats such as Ric Flair, John Cena, and Bret Hart have had multiple reigns as the United States Champion. The title belonged to WCW in the '90s, but WWE purchased WCW signaling the end of the Monday Night Wars in March 2001 with the United States Championship becoming exclusive to WWE.

The United States Championship was traditionally seen as the stepping stone to the WCW Championship, and it is on par with the Intercontinental Championship. Furthermore, some of the youngest wrestlers to hold the United States Championship benefited from winning it as some went on to become World Champions.
10 The Miz - 28 Years, 11 Months, And 27 Days
The Miz is a history maker as he is the first two-time Grand Slam Champion in WWE history. On the October 5, 2009, edition of Raw, just three days before his 29 birthday, the Awesome One defeated Kofi Kingston for his first run as the United States Champion.
Miz added more gold when he was United States Champion as he won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship with Big Show in February 2010. Miz held the United States Championship for seven months, and Bret Hart curtailed his reign on the May 17, 2010 episode of Raw.
9 Rusev - 28 Years, 10 Months, And 9 Days
Rusev won the WWE United States Championship three times during his WWE career, but his first reign with the title came on a WWE Network exclusive when he beat Sheamus on November 3, 2014. The Bulgarian Brute was 28 years old, and he had a steady run as United States Champion.
One of the major highlights of Rusev's US Championship run was his rivalry with John Cena. Rusev beat Cena at Fastlane 2015, but Cena ended his United States Championship run in a rematch at WrestleMania 31.
8 Edge - 28 Years And 13 Days
WWE Hall of Famer is a Grand Slam Champion all thanks to winning the United States Championship in 2001. The title was known as the WCW United States Championship, and Edge defeated his former ally Kurt Angle for the title on the road to Survivor Series.
Edge's United States Championship reign only lasted six days as he clashed with the Intercontinental Champion Test in a title unification match at Survivor Series. Edge defeated Test to unify the Intercontinental and United States Championships with Edge as the final WCW United States Champion until the title was revived as the WWE United States Championship in 2003.
7 Kofi Kingston - 27 Years, 9 Months, And 18 Days
Kofi Kingston had a knack for winning mid-card championships in the early years of his WWE career. Kingston is a three-time United States Champion, and he held the Intercontinental Championship four times. Kingston was 27 when he won the United States Championship for the first time in June 2009 when he defeated MVP, who is one of the greatest United States Champions of all time.

Kingston was a fighting champion, and he defended the title against the likes of The Miz, Matt Hardy, Jack Swagger, William Regal, Carlito, and Primo. His time as champion ended four months later at the hands of The Miz on an episode of Raw.
6 Dean Ambrose - 27 Years, 5 Months, And 12 Days
Dean Ambrose got the ball rolling for The Shield at Extreme Rules 2013 as he became the first member of the group to win a championship on the main roster. He defeated Kofi Kingston for the United States Championship, and Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns went on to defeat Team Hell No for the WWE Tag Team Championships later on in the night.
In the history books, Ambrose held the United States Championship for 351 days which seems impressive, but it was far from it. There were several months when Ambrose wouldn't defend the title as he was involved in high-profile six-man tag team matches with his Shield stablemates, leaving the title redundant at times.
5 John Cena - 26 Years, 10 Months, And 20 Days
Unquestionably, John Cena is one of the greatest United States Champions of all time. Cena is a five-time United States Champion, and he began his love affair with the title when he beat Big Show at WrestleMania 20 for the championship in the curtain-raiser.
It was Cena's first championship on the main roster, and he had a four-month run with the title. He beat the likes of Rhyno, Rene Dupree, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam during his maiden US Championship reign. However, his title reign was ended by Kurt Angle, who was the General Manager of SmackDown, and he stripped him of the title for attacking him leaving the title vacant. Cena was just 26 when he won the United States Championship for the first time.
4 Zack Ryder - 26 Years, 7 Months, And 4 Days
Zack Ryder's popularity grew in the 2010s, and it was hard for WWE to ignore it. The Long Island Iced Z upset Dolph Ziggler at TLC 2011 to become WWE United States Champion. Ryder was 26 years old, and it was the first singles championship in his WWE career.

Ryder's one-month United States Championship reign was underwhelming, and he only defended the title once. He dropped the title to Jack Swagger on the January 16, 2012 edition of Raw in a couple of minutes.
3 Rhyno - 25 Years, 11 Months, And 16 Days
Rhyno came over to WWE before the Alliance storyline started as he was allied with Edge, Christian, and Kurt Angle. However, Rhyno joined the Alliance alongside some of his fellow ECW alumni, WCW alumni, and WWE defectors. At Unforgiven 2001, Rhyno bulldozed his way through Tajiri to win the WCW United States Championship.
Rhyno was just 25 years old and he held the WCW United States Championship for just one month. During that time he saw off Jeff Hardy and Tajiri before Kurt Angle dethroned him on the October 22, 2001 edition of Raw.
2 Carlito - 25 Years, 7 Months, And 14 Days
Carlito made an impact on the October 7, 2004 edition of SmackDown. In his WWE debut match, Carlito dethroned John Cena for the WWE United States Championship. He became the youngest United States Champion in WWE history, a record he'd hold for almost 18 years.
Carlito's United States Championship reign lasted 42 days, and he saw off the likes of Rey Mysterio and Rico during his title run. However, he wasn't fully fit, and John Cena regained the title from him in a matter of seconds.
1 Austin Theory - 24 Years, 8 Months, And 16 Days
Austin Theory has a lot of untapped potential, and he is touted as a future World Champion. On the April 18, 2022 edition of Raw, Theory defeated the first-ever Universal Champion Finn Balor to become the youngest WWE United States Champion in WWE history at the age of 24.
Theory's maiden United States Championship reign had room for improvement, and he defended the title against Cody Rhodes and Mustafa Ali. Ultimately, Bobby Lashley ended his first United States Championship reign at Money in the Bank 2022. Theory won the United States Championship for a second time at Survivor Series: WarGames in a triple threat match against the defending champion Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley.
