With WrestleMania 39 fast approaching, the two night card for WWE's biggest show of the year is starting to take shape. Intriguing matches such as Roman Reigns for Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and Bianca Belair vs Asuka for the Raw Women's Championship have already been announced. Then there's the dream matches. Will we get Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs The Usos? How about John Cena vs Austin Theory?
One dream match that topped the list was Brock Lesnar vs the Intercontinental Champion, Gunther. When the two squared off in the ring during the Royal Rumble, it looked like we were getting the tease for the match everyone wanted. Then the latest episode of Raw went in a very different and bizarre direction that makes no sense.
WWE Hasn't Built Omos Up To Be Worthy Of Facing Brock Lesnar
If there's one thing most WWE fans can agree on about Omos, it's that he looks like a million bucks. At 7'3" and 400 pounds, no one in WWE is as big as the Nigerian giant. His facial expressions are menacing, and his presence is one that demands you look at him and take notice.
Outside of his look, however, Omos hasn't done much in WWE. In late 2020, he became the muscle for a heel AJ Styles in a rather odd pairing. Still, the two made it work well enough. Omos had matches here and there, but he never did much besides standing there looking scary and slowly beating up his opponent. It was evident that he was still green in the ring and needed more time to develop. Eventually, Omos attacked AJ Styles at the end of 2021, which looked to set up a big feud. It never happened. They had a match on Raw, which Omos won, then went their separate ways.
Omos' booking has been hot and cold since. He did get a big match against Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 38 when Lashley's manager, MVP, turned on him and joined Omos. Omos won, and the match wasn't half bad, but following the big win, Omos took a few big losses to Lashley, destroying whatever momentum he had just gained. He was part of the Money in the Bank ladder match, but got put through a table by everyone else involved. He had a match with Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel, but lost that. Then, at the Royal Rumble, he didn't do much at all. Omos is barely on TV, but now, suddenly, out of nowhere, with zero build, he is challenging Brock Lesnar, one of WWE's all-time greats.

Brock Lesnar Needs A Big Match To Save His Underwhelming Babyface Run
Brock Lesnar is one of the most dominating wrestlers in the history of WWE. Not too long ago he was the face of WWE, and he's been in several WrestleMania main events. Eventually his silent heel persona, with Paul Heyman by his side as his mouthpiece, wore thin. Lesnar changed up his gimmick, doing a complete 180 that shocked fans in its effectiveness. The seething, angry villain was gone. Now Brock was a face, coming out smiling, greeting fans, and giving promos, where he showed that he could actually talk and be funny as well. It made his umpteenth feud with Roman Reigns last year feel fresh after everyone had long grown sick of them being put together so often.
Since losing to Reigns at WrestleMania 38, Lesnar has felt lost. Sure, there was that great SummerSlam rematch that Lesnar and Reigns had, but since then he has been stuck in a dull off and on feud with Bobby Lashley that has taken away the dominant monster we once knew. When the two met at Crown Jewel, Lesnar won, but it was Lashley who looked like the star. At the Elimination Chamber, for some reason he was booked to low blow Lashley and attack the referee to show that he was frustrated at his inability to put Lashley down. The Beast Incarnate is long gone.

Brock Lesnar Vs Gunther Could Be A WrestleMania Classic
Fans haven't been the only one clamoring for a first-time ever bout between Gunther and Brock Lesnar. Even the Intercontinental Champion himself has commented on the possibility of facing Lesnar, recently telling The Rob Brown Show, "I've been portrayed as the end boss in wrestling for a lot of guys, but I think Brock could be my end boss. I really hope the match goes down at some point." (h/t Fightful)
A WrestleMania showdown between Lesnar and Gunther would be great for both men. Brock Lesnar needs a big-time match with someone new to keep him looking exciting and fresh, rather than a nostalgia act, which he is in danger of becoming. For Gunther, who has had the most impressive Intercontinental Championship run in decades, and who put on a record-breaking performance at the Royal Rumble, it's the logical next step of WWE's pushing him to the top of the card. A win over Lesnar (who could afford to lose and still be okay), would position Gunther right there with Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes.
Instead, WWE is trying to sell us something that no one is excited for. It's possible that it's all a swerve to distract us from the predictable, and Gunther will come out and challenge Lesnar instead or vice versa, but sadly, Brock Lesnar vs Omos is probably the WrestleMania match we're going to get. Gunther vs Lesnar will have to wait. Fingers crossed that one day we get to see it.
