While the news of a contract extension might not be official, the fact that reports are surfacing WWE creative has been told to write and pitch long-term storyline ideas for Sami Zayn suggest that Zayn has signed a new contract extension.

We've reported that Zayn was likely to sign a new deal as his contract was coming due and his close friend Kevin Owens recently signed on for another three years with WWE. Assuming the two men would likely stick together and with word WWE was eager to get Zayn signed to an extension, a report from Ringside News that they’ve been told that WWE writers were given the green light to pitch long-term ideas for Zayn can only mean the company knows he's sticking around.

There was chatter that Zayn had already inked a new deal with WWE but terms of that deal were not disclosed and official confirmation was tough to come by. But if WWE is going ahead and planning out where Zayn's character will be going weeks and months in advance, logic dictates that a deal has been finalized.

Zayn has been used a lot on television recently as is part of a massive angle with Brock Lesnar on SmackDown. That he has received quite the push as one of WWE's top heels on the blue brand was the first clue that he wasn't likely to bolt for a company like AEW. At the very least, it was a hint that WWE was showing him some love in the hopes that would convince him to stick around and that his future was brightest in WWE.

Good Signing By WWE

If true, this is good news for WWE who just locked up Owens. Both men are big parts of the WWE roster and Zayn specifically has been one of the company's most entertaining "bad guys". He's got a way of getting everyone over while wins and losses have almost no effect on his popularity. That's a hard attribute to come by and it makes sense WWE wouldn't want to let that kind of asset leave without a negotiation.
